Engagement Groups

Special interest groups are a fun way for members to get to know each other in new and more meaningful ways.  

Responding to a desire to get to know other members on a more informal basis, IWF Georgia launched four special interest groups last year.  The groups are self managed and self funded.  The Investment and Book Clubs are up and running, albeit virtually right now.  The Golf Group and Family Time will re-activate, once it is safe for groups to meet again.

The Diva Dollars Investment Club began meeting last November and incorporated formally as a partnership in February.  Over the year, each of the sixteen partners will present at least one stock for the club’s investment at a monthly meeting.  So far, the club has invested in four stocks.   Given the current forces at work in the stock market, the members are getting a quick education, and maybe a little nail biting!  Because of the structure of the club, membership will not be open for six months.  Anyone who might be interested in joining after that should contact Molly Burke or Pat Robinson to learn more.

The Book Club held its first meeting, virtually, on March 18 after reading “The Wrong Kind of Women—Inside Our Revolution to Dismantle the Gods of Hollywood”, a non-fiction book written by Naomi McDougall Douglas. The 32-year old actress-turned-writer author, who lives in Atlanta, joined the meeting at the invitation of IWF member Elizabeth Noe.  The club is using the Bookclubz website and app to enable communications, schedule meetings, poll member preferences, and track books. Sixteen members have registered to date. The group plans to meet every 1-2 months and will select both fiction and non-fiction selections by vote of the group. The next book will be “The Dutch House” by Ann Patchett, and we will meet late April/early May.  Membership is open, so if you are interested in joining contact Susan Bell or Donna Buchanan to learn more. 

The Golf Group launched last fall and is eager to hit the fairways again.  This group is focused on having an enjoyable time, and there is no skill requirement.  They will meet at different courses around the area, followed by a casual dinner.  No obligation to commit.  Just come play a time or two, and get hooked!  For more information, contact Lisa Gordon or Ray Uttenhove.
